For children, adolescents and adults, the costs of the initial examination are covered by both statutory and private health insurance.
The success of orthodontic treatment depends crucially on determining the right time to begin treatment. In cases of severe tooth and jaw misalignment that adversely affect jaw growth, early treatment as early as three or four years of age may be beneficial.
Misaligned teeth and jaws can be hereditary. If you, as a parent, have been affected by misaligned teeth, we recommend having your child examined by an orthodontist early on. Preventive orthodontic treatment can correct misalignments in a timely manner.
If sucking continues beyond the age of three, the jaw is usually permanently deformed and the teeth shift. If the child can be weaned from sucking before the age of three, growth usually returns to normal.

Attaching brackets or wires is generally painless. However, the patient needs to get used to the braces first, and the fixed nature of the appliance may cause temporary sensitivity. Generally speaking, after some time, the various tissues in the oral cavity adapt so well to the new situation that brackets, archwires, and bands are barely noticeable. The adjustment period is certainly individual and varies from patient to patient.
Removable braces can cause sensitivity in individual teeth and increased drooling in the first few days. Unlike fixed braces, removable braces may be tempting to remove them. However, this is not recommended. Removable braces must be worn adequately from the beginning.
Cleaning teeth with fixed braces is more time-consuming and should be done carefully. With proper dental care, cavities cannot develop.
It's important to distinguish whether the braces are pressing on the teeth or the gums. If the braces are pressing on the teeth, this is a desired effect and indicates tooth movement. However, if the braces are pressing on the gums and this doesn't go away after a short time, please schedule an emergency appointment.
If a small piece has broken off and it doesn't interfere with your braces, you can leave them as they are and we'll see you at your next check-up. However, if wearing them is uncomfortable or the braces are so damaged that you can't continue wearing them, please call us and schedule an emergency appointment at our practice.
If a wire on the removable brace breaks, please contact us for an emergency appointment.
There can be various reasons for this:
If a bracket or band has come loose, it must be reattached promptly. Please contact our practice for an emergency appointment.
Due to tooth movement, one end of the wire (arch end) may protrude and prick the cheek mucosa or the tongue.
As a first aid measure for a bothersome bow, use the protective wax we provide (dry the area thoroughly and apply a pea-sized amount of protective wax until the area is well coated). Please do not attempt to shorten or cut off the bow yourself. If the protruding end of the bow does not bother you, please return to your scheduled follow-up appointment. Otherwise, please contact us for an emergency appointment.
Especially at the beginning of treatment with fixed braces, when the dental arches are being shaped, small gaps may temporarily appear between the teeth. These gaps will disappear over the course of treatment. If you are still unsure, please call us.
To reattach the hook, please make an appointment with our practice.
If your TMJ splint is broken, defective, or rubbing against your gums, please schedule an appointment at our practice. In individual cases, the splint can be repaired or adjusted, but in most cases, a new splint will be necessary. An in-person appointment with your splinter is required to determine this.
It's important to ensure that the removable retainer/splint is worn every night, as otherwise the teeth in the loosened area can quickly shift again. Please schedule an appointment for reattachment as soon as possible.
